Earth Day For Tree Huggers

NPR had a nice segment on Earth Day today about the origin of the term Tree Hugger. Below you will find a link to the segment.

Get out there and hug a tree, give thanks to Mother Earth for her bounty, pray for an animal under stresss, Or those suffering from a calamity. Celebrate Earth Day with a thanks.

World Population Has Overrun Mother Earth's Ability To Sustain Herself

The world's population has exceeded Mother Earth's ability to sustain it concludes a recent research report. Global human population has surpassed Earth’s sustainable carrying capacity  We are putting increased pressure on our climate crisis, our ability to feed ourselves and more.

Instead of 8 billion people we should have closer to 2.5 billion to live sustainably.

Over Population makes reducing our climate crisis that much more challenging. Think  of it this way, if we had made an effort to keep the world's population at 4 billion in1974, (twelve years after the publication of Rachel Carson's Silent Spring and the birth or modern environmental movement) pollution would be about half of what it is today.

With war in the Ukraine and the Middle East one needs to also wonder whether too many people contributes to war?

Too many people  will create numerous challenges in the years ahead.
