Sacred Site Listing Changes

Please be aware several of the sites listed on Places of Prayer in Mother in Mother Earth's Soul are no longer accessible, or open to the public.  So please check with the location before visiting.

The following are few of the changes:
Spirit House in Georgetown NY is in private hands.

Poland's Nature Preserve in Poland NY; The Nature preserve was  donated to the Poland School system specifically for use as a public space. They decided to sell the land. When I spoke to the business manager he told they contacted the family of the deceased school employee to get approval.  I don't understand how this is possible; land donated for a specific purpose, public use--SOLD?.

The Peacemakers' Sanctuary at Onondaga Lake; the bench has been removed and the space has  become overgrown.  It is still accessible, while the vortex has unfortunately dissipated the space still has an incredible vibe. ENJOY.
I am trying to get the space physically refurbished.

The Tree of Peace at Onondaga Lake: the stones surrounding where the Tree of Peace was planted have been removed.

My book Sacred Sites in North Star Country due out spring of 2016 will have an expanded and up to date listing of sacred sites in the heart of Mother Earth's Soul.

So please check before visiting sites, particularly those not on public lands.

Transcending Time--Published Summer of 2014 American Society of Dowsers Digest

Transcending Time
By Madis Senner
The following is from Vortices and Spirals; Unlocking the Mystery of Our Dynamic Relationship with Mother Earth due out 2015.
We have a dynamic and vital relationship with Mother Earth that goes far beyond the air we breathe, the water we drink and the food we eat. Mother Earth nourishes us with a host of energies and essences that few know about let alone understand. She even nurtures our soul.
We also have a special bond with Mother Earth whereby we can co-create with her a new birth that benefits both her and humankind. One such bond is one I hold very dear--what dowsers call an energy vortex. Energy vortices are powerfully transformative, healing, and have a unique way of transcending time by connecting us to people in the past. To better understand this I would like to share with you an experience I had one summer.
My years of meditating in the woods have made me sentient of Mother Earth and sensitive to the thought forms that cling to the land. Unfortunately much of the Earth is blanketed with negative thought forms that can give me a headache. When I left my home in upstate New York to speak at a conference in Vermont this particular summer, it did not take more than thirty minutes of driving on the New York State Thruway before my head began to hurt. Fortunately, when I arrived in Vermont I was able to find a campsite that was not cluttered with negative thoughts.

The vibe at the conference center of this large ski resort was bad. After spending all day there I did not feel well so I decided to go for a hike and meditate in the woods. My intuition told me there was a particularly nice place nearby so I decided to use my dowsing rods to direct me. As I began climbing, my dowsing rods pointed to my right hand side--indicating my meditation location was in that direction. When I reached the ridge trail connecting several peaks, my rods pointed to the left, indicating I should take the trail.  Then they immediately returned to pointing to the right. When I climbed a small peak my rods went totally perpendicular. I followed my rods and turned right and walked off the trail, now my rods were pointing straight ahead. I continued walking until they opened up (180’) at a small semi-clearing near the edge of a steep drop off. This was the place I had been looking for.
I sensed there was something special about the place as it felt so good to be there. Indeed my dowsing rods indicated a positive energy vortex had formed in this spot as they spun around in a clockwise manner. This is called an energy vortex because energy spins around in a whirlpool-like pattern. Energy usually travels in straight lines, so vortices are something unique. I call them natural vortices because they form naturally in cooperation with Mother Earth from praying, meditating, selfless acts and positive intentions.
What may have once been a clearing with a spectacular view was now overgrown and blocked by several large trees. I surmised it was the once majestic view that attracted people to this mountaintop spot. Given the size of the trees, I estimated the vortex had formed at least a few hundreds years ago, and was created by the prayer and or ceremony of Native Americans. The vortex could have been much older and been reinvigorated by the continual praying of generations of Native Americans. There was no way of knowing for sure.
What mattered more than who created the vortex or its age, was it was very powerful. As soon as I began to meditate within it I could feel my subtle body being purged of the negative thought forms I had picked up the last few days. As I got deeper into trance I began to sense a variety of new and different sensations beyond my normal experiences during meditation. Seemingly, my soul was glowing and being nourished by the energy vortex. I was connecting with the vibe and being of those who helped form this wonderful vortex. That is the beauty of a natural vortex, it transcends time and carries forward the consciousness, intentions and aspirations of all those who helped create it.
I stayed there for forty-five minutes and would have remained longer if evening was not about to descend. Before I left I gave heartfelt blessings and thanks to those who had worked with Mother Earth to create such a divine structure. My meditation buoyed me for my talk the next day as well as the trip home.
During my morning meditation at home on Monday I realized how much I had been blessed by my experience on the mountaintop. Instead of having to work through the mental debris I normally acquire after traveling, I went immediately deep into trance. Because my subtle body and consciousness had been stretched in different ways, I felt fuller and more complete.
Natural vortices are like mother’s milk. Science tells us we build up immunity by being breast fed by our mother when we are young. Similarly, when we meditate in a natural vortex, we are fortified by the consciousness, thoughts and intentions of those who created it. Clearly my mountaintop meditation had nourished me with things I needed or lacked.
Some of my most powerful spiritual experiences have been within vortices at sacred spaces in the woods and in hidden and out of the way places. By meditating in one you will be gaining from the years of effort and experience of those who helped create it. In many ways you will be transcending time when you fuse with consciousness of those who created the vortex.

So get out your L-rods and begin exploring Mother Earth and sacred sites in your area. You should also consider visiting a local place of worship or a meditation center where people pray and meditate on a regular basis. Such places often have natural vortices form because of all the meditating done at them. Chances are you may find a natural vortex and if so sit down and meditate in it and be connected to the essence of those that helped create it. It will be a powerfully transformative experience.

Review of Vortices and Spirals from The American Society of Dowsers Digest

Vortices and Spirals: Unlocking the Mystery
Of Our Dynamic Relationship with Mother Earth
Madis Senner
Mother Earth Press, Syracuse, NY: 2015
                     ISBN 978-0-9908744-0-9
                     $19.95
                     Available at the ASD Bookstore,
                     and online at www.dowsers.org

Reviewer: Suzanne S. Kotcher

This paperback edition of Madis Senner’s newest book contains 11 chapters (148 pages) of text with 25 helpful illustrations, plus 37 pages of Chapter Notes, Appendix, Glossary, 6 pages of Bibliography and an Index.

The author grew up in Syracuse, NY, but spent 21 years in New York City – most of that time working on Wall Street – before returning to the Syracuse area.  In the summer of 2002, after conducting prayer ceremonies around Onondaga Lake, he met dowser David Yarrow, who taught him about ley (energy) lines and how to dowse for them. Madis' specialty and emphasis is on Mother Earth and her subtle body (energy fields).  He dowses for the Earth's chakras, ley lines, vortices, and what he calls Fields of Consciousness where many ley lines intersect, and shares his knowledge in Vortices and Spirals.

I find this book to be very interesting, informative and easy to read.  I particularly enjoy the way Madis explains clearly, offers many examples and proceeds in a step-by-step manner.  He starts with an explanation of an energy vortex and the use of dowsing tools, particularly L-rods.  From there he moves to consciousness and how our thoughts are the most elemental vortices, which can culminate in complex energy vortices.  He describes energy vortices and spirals in great detail – what they are, how they are formed and their relationship to and formation in Mother Earth.  Madis also discusses samskaras, imprints, talismans and pranas.

Madis describes how these energetic phenomena affect humanity and the Earth.  Included is how prana from natural vortices relates to healing ability and well-being.  He also discusses negative vortices and how they are detrimental to health and well-being.  Towards the end, Madis details how to dowse for vortices, how to create our own, and how we can work with the energy from vortices and our dynamic relationship with Mother Earth.

This book is an excellent reference for all energy workers or dowsers.  It can also be informative for those who just want to know more about Mother Earth and her amazing attributes.

Madis Senner has been associated with the Finger Lakes Dowsers in the Syracuse area since 2006.  He has been a presenter at ASD Conventions several times and has written numerous articles for the ASD Digest over the years.  In 2011, he gave a talk at the Annual Convention and set up a field exhibit of earth chakras, plotting them out with tape. In 2014, Madis started a publishing business, Mother Earth Press.  He is now focused on marketing and writing more books.  (See his article,      on page   )

Suzanne Kotcher, currently the President of the Finger Lakes Chapter of ASD in Syracuse, NY, is a Special Education Teacher, Dowser, Marconics I & II Practitioner, Reiki Master and Practitioner, avid reader and Spiritual Seeker.

Environment Can Affect New Years Resolutions

Land imprints, Samskaras Shape Us

Many of us made a resolution to change some habit or pattern of behavior this New Year. What you need to realize is that your environment shapes your behavior; so  if you don’t change your environment your chances of altering your behavior are greatly reduced.

This may sound odd, but science says this a fact.

NPR did a segment on the influence of space on changing behavior, What Heroin Addiction Tells Us About Changing Bad Habits http://www.npr.org/blogs/health/2015/01/05/371894919/what-heroin-addiction-tells-us-about-changing-bad-habits and noted how Viet Nam vets addicted to heroin kicked their habit at very high rates and with very low relapses.  Psychologists eventually came to learn that the incredible success rate was because coming back home meant changing the environment and the changed environment was behind the succes.

As psychologist David Neal notes, "People, when they perform a behavior a lot — especially in the same environment, same sort of physical setting — outsource the control of the behavior to the environment.

We are intimately connected to Mother Earth and location matters because our thoughts and behavior remain where they are generated. I call these thoughts and actions land imprints or geographic samskaras http://www.jubileeinitiative.org/samskaras.html and they have a powerful influence upon us. So unless you clear up your space where the behavior you are looking to change occurs the space will continue to beckon you to repeat the behavior.

Space matter. Honor Mother Earth!

Schoharie United Presbyterian ChurchSchoharie United Presbyterian Church

Schoharie United Presbyterian Church
The Fire of Social Justice Still Burns
Schoharie, NY

One of the many places of Prayer in Upstate NY.

Schoharie United Presbyterian Church in Schoharie, NY is located in NY’s Capital District not more than a few hours north of New York City and affords a unique opportunity for those living in the capital or tri-state areas. It has a precious piece of Mother Earth’s soul that has been sweetened by the actions, intentions and prayers of all those that have worshipped there.

The church is a testament that Mother Earth’s Soul still blazes in upstate NY and that the divine consciousness that spirited the women’s movement, America’s Second Great Awakening, The Burnt Over District, North Star County, The New Age Movement, Spiritualism and so much more still inspires. Chris Hedges a prominent figure in progressivism and the pursuit of social justice, spent his formative years affiliated with the church from 1960 to 1971 when his father Thomas Hedges served as pastor.

The Church
Founded in 1734 the church is one of the oldest structures in Schoharie County. It is dedicated to community involvement allowing various organizations to use the church. It started and runs the town’s food pantry. The congregation emphasizes service and has contributed to many causes.
Chris Hedges is a Pulitzer prize winning journalist that has been a strident voice for social justice and progressive issues. He has shown the willingness to stand behind his beliefs as he was reprimanded by his former employer the NY Times for publicly criticizing the paper’s impartiality in covering the Iraq war. Chris authored what The New York Times described as "a call to arms" for the first issue of The Occupied Wall Street Journal, the newspaper giving voice to the Occupy Wall Street protests in Zuccotti Park, New York City. He writes a weekly column for Truthdig and has authored numerous books.
A former pastor in the 70’s and 80’s Bob, “Smitty” Smith, arranged with local farmers to allow various food coops and pantries to glean their fields after they had been picked. He also led the effort to prevent Schoharie valley from being flooded and converted to a larger reservoir for NYC, putting the town of Schoharie underwater.

In 2011 the church like much of the town was flooded from severe rain and some restoration work stills remains to be done. For more on the churches history go to:Church History
The Fire Still Burns
In 2002 I was called to gather people to pray around Onondaga Lake. It was here the Native America (Haudenosaunee, Iroquois) prophet the Peacemaker planted the Tree of Peace and gave us the Great Law of Peace upon which the America constitution is based. I have been searching NYS seeking to learn from and connect to Mother Earth. This led me to the understanding that upstate NY has been a wellspring for much of what inspires and motivates our greatest aspirations.
During that search an aspect of Mother Earth, what I call fields of consciousness, was revealed to me. Ley lines emanate from these fields which are associated with sacred sites. I have found these fields in places where social justice and spiritual movements were born, places where epiphanies occurred (Charles Grandison Finney, Clara Barton, Thomas Merton) and where great people lived (Harriet Tubman, Susan B. Anthony, Gerrit Smith, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Fredrick Douglas...)
That was the 19th century or earlier and it could be argued that it was the time and not the place that drove so many great movements and inspired so many great souls.
General Overview
Stacked Fields, highest number 5
Vibe Geographic Samskaras Positive to Very Positive
Vortices of cosmic prana 0
Other Divine Features Yes
Indoor prayer places Yes
When my friend Ira Glunts told me that Chris Hedges grew up in Schoharie and that his father was a minister there I was intrigued and wanted to visit the church. It took a few years to finally get around to doing a review.
Experiencing the Church
There is a very positive and friendly atmosphere to the church. The geographic samskaras, thought forms, within the church are very positive and enhance your spiritual experience. There were no vortices within the church.
There are fields of consciousness throughout the church. The strongest and most potent area is the right side of the church as you face the lectern. There is a stacked field of 5—very nice considering that the church is rather far from the heart of Mother Earth’s soul, the Rochester Utica corridor. Each field of consciousness on top of, or stacked upon another adds to the strength of a field.
I would recommend meditating or praying in the pews on the right side.
If you go
SchoharieUnited Presbyterian Church is located at 314 Main St. Schoharie, NY. Churches website Schoharie United Presbyterian Church
There are several noteworthy places closeby that you should consider visiting:
Kateri Tekakwitha shrine in Fonda, NY about 30 minutes to the north has a chapel that can move you to tears--a powerful place of prayer with numerous vortices. Kateri was a Mohawk that converted to Catholicism and was recently canonized to Sainthood in October of 2012.
Abode of the Message in New Lebanon, NY about 30 to 45 minutes to the east is the home of a Sufi order that once was a home to the Shakers. It has a wonderful feel to it, many divine features and offers a variety programs. To see ofther nearby places of interest nearby or on your way go to Places of Prayer

Trees Help Resist Cardiovascular Disease-- US Forest Service

Trees Help Resist Cardiovascular Disease Reports US Forest Service

Will the Emerald Ash Borer Increase Cardiovascular and Respiratory Deaths in NYS?

With the emerald ash borer devastating ash trees across the country research is showing that areas struck by the ash borer have seen a significant rise in cardiovascular disease and pneumonia. So reports the US Forest Service in “The Relationship Between Trees and Human Health.”

It noted that “[t]here is increasing evidence from multiple scientific fields that exposure to the natural environment can improve human health.”

Researchers concluded that;

"There was an increase in mortality related to cardiovascular and lower-respiratory-tract illness in counties infested with the emerald ash borer. The magnitude of this effect was greater as infestation progressed and in counties with above-average median household income. Across the 15 states in the study area, the borer was associated with an additional 6113 deaths related to illness of the lower respiratory system, and 15,080 cardiovascular-related deaths."

Interestingly researchers found that wealthier areas devastated by the ash borer had higher mortality rates:

“The borer had a greater effect in counties whose median household income was above average. There are a number of possible interpretations for these results. People in wealthier counties may have greater access to ash trees, so the death of these trees has a greater impact on them. In particular, urban areas within wealthier counties may have more trees, or better maintain them. Indeed, past studies have found that within a city, wealthier neighborhoods have more tree-canopy cover.

It also is possible that trees provide different benefits in wealthier areas. For example, Troy and Grove found that proximity to urban parks increased the sales price of homes in wealthier neighborhoods, whereas, in poor neighborhoods, houses close to parks sold for less. The authors suggest that parks may attract criminal behavior in poorer neighborhoods, so residents are not able to benefit from the park as much as people living in a wealthier neighborhood. In addition, risk factors such as air quality, which trees can mediate, may be different in wealthier counties.”

Thanks to Bill Dewey of Gossamer Wood for passing along this report.
