Onondaga Lake Cleanup

From Neighbors of the Onondaga Nation

Every day until September 24th. Hosted by Neighbors of the Onondaga Nation.
Onondaga Lake needs your help!
Please submit comments to Tracy Allan Smith, Project Manager, NYSDEC: tracy.smith@dec.ny.gov.
Demand a full clean-up of Harbor Brook/Wastebed B site. After an extension, comments are due September 24th.

The NYSDEC is about to sign off on a sub-standard remedy for a Superfund Site at Onondaga Lake. This is a rare opportunity for public comment on this travesty of a clean up. Please speak out and demand better, for the lake and for the future of our communities!
As you may have seen in the Post-Standard, Honeywell and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation have announced their planned “remedy” for the Wastebed B / Harbor Brook site.
The Wastebed B / Harbor Brook Superfund Site is located on both sides of I-690 at the south end of Onondaga Lake. Long time residents will remember a waste pipe from Allied Chemical’s operations crossing the highway and dumping into the lake and on its shores. The worst of the pollution dumped in Onondaga Lake, known as the “In-Lake Waste Deposit” in official documents, is immediately offshore from this area.
